Well well well, isn’t this rather curious:
There’s a paywall here but just as summary, investigative reporters at the Orlando Sentinel discovered that almost a million and a half dollars designated for those infamous “migrant flights” from Florida are still completely unaccounted for (with some similar stirrings about the flights from Texas), and now with official stonewalling from DeSantis’ office about exactly where that money—charged to the Florida taxpayers—actually went. The investigation’s still ongoing but it isn’t hard to figure out the likely answer given that DeSantis and his insider cronies were in charge of the illegal and unconstitutional flights out of Florida, and had full control of and access to Florida state government funds to pull off the illegal operation—why not violate even more laws and buy themselves a yacht or two when they’re already wasting taxpayer funds on shady activities as it is?
It should come as little surprise that DeSantis is following the Trump and Bannon script for ripping off the taxpayers in his state and the nation as a whole, duping the conservative voters with words they want to hear while robbing them blind with the other hand. This is exactly their playbook, after all whatever else they are they’re conmen and grifters at heart, and DeSantis seems to have found the perfect way to pull of the little heist. Get the base all riled up about “those hordes crossing the border” and do public photo-ops with the chartered flights sending them across the country, then when everyone’s too distracted by the MAGA rhetoric, siphon off as much in taxpayer funds as you can. Even the “legitimate” expenses for the migrant flights were a blatant ripoff of Florida taxpayer money, but these idiots couldn’t resist some additional grift and likely embezzlement on top. Combined with DeSantis’ stance as basically the champion of the American anti-vaxxer movement, he’s making a pretty good case for becoming the most damagingly idiotic politician in America right now, and all this is just the tip of the iceberg.
